Professor of Surgery
Professor Scholefield is Head of Division of GI Surgery at University Hospital Nottingham (Queens Medical Centre).
Professor Scholefield trained in Surgery in Sheffield and later specialising in colorectal surgery at St Mark's Hospital London. He has been a Consultant Surgeon for almost 14 years in Nottingham.

Professor Scholefield is well known nationally and internationally for his research in colorectal cancer screening, anal fissures and anal cancer. He has published over 120 peer reviewed papers in Surgical journals and edited or co edited four textbooks on colorectal surgery (see links).
In addition to running busy NHS and private practices Professor Scholefield also leads a clinical research team, a gastro intestinal motility laboratory and supervises four PhD students. Collaboration with the Wolfson Digestive Diseases Foundation and the School of Biomedical Sciences at University of Nottingham form an integral part of this research activity. Professor Scholefield also chairs the National Cancer Research Institute's Colorectal Trials Committee
Professor Scholefield's NHS practice is based at Queens Medical Centre, and his private work is based at the BMI Park Hospital and the Nottingham Nuffield Hospital. Prof Scholefield has a busy clinical practice mainly dealing with colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anal diseases such as fissure, fistula, haemorrhoids and incontinence.

Professor Scholefield has undertaken personal injury and clinical negligence medico legal work for more than ten years, acting for both Claimants and Defendants. Currently he receives around 25 new instructions per year.
